About the Owners
PLENTY TO WRITE ABOUT….
Patrick, Dale and Ben McCord have been running The Arena Motel in Christchurch since 2007 and in that time they say they could fill a book about their experiences.
And that’s quite appropriate as both Patrick and Dale come to life as moteliers from long careers involved in journalism. Patrick was a sports journalist for close on 30 years and has recently written two books.
The first one off the presses is the story of the famous New Zealand racehorse and is aptly named – Phar Lap – The Untold Story. The second is a history of a local horse racing club and involved many hours delving into the record books to compile an accurate story of the club’s 150 years.
Dale spends her time away from the motels nurturing some of New Zealand’s up and coming journalists in her role as a media tutor with Aoraki Polytechnic.
Both Patrick and Dale are using the skills gained from their careers to help make their guests’ visit to their motel and to Christchurch and New Zealand a memorable and enjoyable one. They are fast and efficient at sourcing information for their guests
And for those guests who like a friendly chat - the McCords says there’s always plenty to chat about and , of course, always someone to chat to.
Joining Patrick and Dale on the team at The Arena Motel is their son Ben, who spends summer in Christchurch helping run the motels, and then heads off to the United Kingdom to play cricket during the New Zealand winter.
Ben has added a new dimension to the motel team as many guests enjoy having a young person to chat to.
The McCords have plenty of stories to tell about their time at the motels ….but that’s all a secret for now.
