“Great value....for poor old Christchurch ..”

Stayed at the Arena Motel, for one night, prior to taking the Tranzalpine train to Greymouth. We wouldn't normally stay at a motel, but there are few hotels available near the Railway Station, bearing in mind that many have been affected by the earthquake, and after shocks.

On check-in we were greeted by Dale (the Manageress I think), and a big smile. She was incredibly helpful in giving us some much welcomed recommendations on where to eat, drink and visit before showing us to our room. Remember this is a motel, but for all that the room was spacious, clean and well appointed, with a well equipped kitchenette, including everything you need to knock up a cup of tea or coffee, including fresh milk. Wifi is apparently available and while we could connect to the Arena network there was no internet connection, but it wasn't important to us. The only other issue was that the traffic outside the motelhas apparently increased significantly since the earthquake, which has seen roads closed wit traffic being re-routed. it was a little noisy during the day, but it didn't bother us come bedtime.

The town centre is about 30 mins walk away, but there are a some good coffee shops and restaurants nearby, as well as a small shopping centre including a pub.

The next morning we checked out at 07:30hrs., and Dale was there to run us to the Railway Station to catch our train. All inclusive in the price!!!We were pleasantly surprised, and enjoyed the stay, and would recommend, especially if you are planning to take theTranzalpine train.

“Excellent motel”

This motel ticks all the boxes for me (big rooms, comfortable beds, clean, everything provided) but there are two extras which I have not found in many other places: 1. wonderfully friendly hosts who make you so welcome and will do anything to help and 2. free pickup (or delivery) to the railway station.

We stayed here one night and this motel had a surprising and welcome family feel. We arrived late and were warmly welcomed to a spotlessly clean unit. The following morning, the owner gave us a lift to the train station. Even from this short stay, this place seemed well run and it provides a perfect base (if a little away from the centre) from which to discover Christchurch .

“Sorry to leave”

We really fell on our feet with this motel. We were met at the train station and transported to the motel. Our room was very well equiped, comfortable and clean. The owners could not do enough, providing much assistance (booking shuttle bus, etc.) and offering suggestions for visiting the city. We were very sorry to leave
